Alan Williams

Using the traditional techniques of blacksmithing, Alan forges, shapes and contorts found metal objects to create each of his unique works of art. The combination of these processes, with a keen imagination and meticulous eye for detail, results in a style that sets him apart from other metal artists and sculptors.

He has a passion for working with recycled materials and transforming the everyday into wild and mythical creatures.

His work is exquisitely executed, visually rich, and captures the life and character within each piece he creates. There are always things to discover, more to look at, and the viewer is drawn in ever deeper.

Personal Statement

I am a sculptor and metal artist, honing my craft over the last 17 years.

I have created private and public artworks for both the United Kingdom and internationally, with pieces installed within private residencies, public spaces, galleries, hotels and offices. My most recent projects include a permanent sculpture in Al Shaheed Park in Kuwait, as well as several permanent installations at Kew Gardens. I have also created work for charities such as The Bhopal Medical Appeal, Alder Hey Children’s Hospice and The Argus Appeal.

I have helped to establish several creative metal workshops and practices in Sussex. I have run creative workshops with a variety of schools, local communities and educational groups. These include people with learning and behavioural difficulties and those excluded from school. I have also offered ongoing training and work experience to students and graduates from the Further and Higher Education sectors.

My other interests include writing and performing music, photography, art, travel, reading, issues of sustainability and being a Dad.
