Dan Goode studied ceramics and was the chief talent scout for online retailers Seek & Adore (voted no.1 talent scout by The Guardian) and Home of Artisans.
While working as a talent scout Dan observed the difficulties designer-makers were encountering in sustaining their businesses. In an effort to support and encourage the making community Dan began giving talks for free, travelling to craft organisations and guilds, alongside his talent spotting. This led, in time, to fruitful relationships – and more opportunities to support UK craft – as a speaker and session leader for organisations as varied as the Crafts Council, The Design Trust, Arts Thread, The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, The Lynn Painter-Stainer Prize, UKHandmade, Derry Council and Handmade in Britain.
In addition to his role as talent scout and speaker, Dan sat on the membership selection panel for Design Factory and for two consecutive years on the selection panel for Handmade Chelsea. At the invitation of the founder of Handmade in Britain, Piyush Suri, Dan became an independent curator for the Handmade in Britain shows in 2016. ‘Curated by Dan Goode’ has been active for three consecutive seasons in Kew, Chelsea, Oxford and Edinburgh and to-date has represented (and championed) in excess of sixty-five of the UK’s finest designer-makers. Handmade at Kew 2018 saw the addition of the ‘Making Goode Gallery’ to further support makers who were unable to attend Kew themselves but who deserved a presence.
Most recently Dan founded ‘Making Goode’ to mentor makers one-to-one, and in late 2018 accepted the role of craft curator for Canopy Market in King’s Cross.
